Mariana Custodio Gallery is pleased to present Gabriel Vorbon’s Solo Exhibition: One Enemy. Composed by the artist’s most recent photographic project, this exhibition showcases a series of portraits that in sequence reveal the story of our protagonist. Through the visuals we witness this character struggles with his biggest enemy, himself. This enemy is an entity that many of us are familiar with, constantly undermining us, preventing us from showing self – compassion, always reminding us of our defeats and exploiting our power in order to continue. When we examine this photographs in sequence, we observe a journey of our character, a journey towards self-acceptance. Weakening the enemy through this conflict, we witness the struggle progresses aggressively, till is gradually simplified. When we come to end of the series, we see that this enemy has been neutralised and our character has become simple and self-returning.

At the end of the shoot, Gabriel Vorbon has realised one of the photos made a connection with Andrew Wyeth’s work ‘Cristina World’; an accidental communication that, tell us Gabriel, made him very happy. As he explains, we are actually a third eye to our protagonist’s world here.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Gabriel Vorbon was born in the early ’90s in Turkey. Apart from being a multi- faceted artist who studied engineering, photography and interior architecture, his experience in the modelling industry gave him a special eye to detail. His pieces
show a peculiar language that connects art, architecture and fashion through a mixed-media symbiosis of geometrical forms and body movements.

Having exhibited in the most highly regarded gallery spaces throughout Istanbul, Vorbon’s works have also been published in numerous magazines such as Based Istanbul, Vanity Teen, GQ, among others. This emerging artist is far from emerging, Gabriel Vorbon’s multidisciplinary qualities make his photographic works a great addition to any contemporary photography collection.
